From invite to aha

Here’s how it plays.

  1. Make it your race

Create a room, choose a grid size and send its invite link to your friends.

  2. Get everyone ready

Connected guests mark themselves ready. The host starts the shared countdown.

  3. Find your finish

Fill your own grid while the room shows live progress. The fastest correct finish wins after penalties.

Know your game

A few good rules.

Simple to pick up, with enough room to find your own approach.

A common starting line

Every player receives the same puzzle at the same start. No one gets a different set of clues.

Accuracy matters

Submitting an incorrect full grid adds 5 seconds. A correct fill beats a fast guess.

Room for another round

The host can start a rematch in the same room. Session wins stay visible so your group can keep playing.

Warm up on your own

A host can run a solo warm-up. Games and wins count on a profile only when at least two people play the round.

Before you jump in

Race, answered.

How many people can race?

A CRSWRD Race room holds up to 8 players. Everyone fills a separate copy of the same 5×5 or 7×7 crossword, starting together.

How do I invite friends to a crossword race?

Create a Race room and copy its invite link. Your friends open the link in their browsers, mark themselves ready and wait for the host to start. No account or download is required.

How does the Race timer work?

All players start together. The fastest correct finish wins after penalties; each incorrect full-grid submission adds 5 seconds. A round ends after everyone finishes or after 10 minutes.

Can I race without inviting someone?

You can use your room for a solo warm-up, or visit the Arena for a quick match with another waiting player. Matchmaking uses real people, so an opponent may not be available immediately.

Can we play again without a new invite?

Yes. The host can start another round in the same room. Your invite link still works, and the room keeps track of session wins.
